City Ready to Tackle Winter Weather
The City of Irving, along with the rest of the Dallas-Fort Worth region, can expect wet, wintry and extremely cold weather conditions beginning Tuesday evening, Feb. 9, through Monday, Feb. 15, according to the National Weather Service. Residents are advised to turn off sprinkler systems and bring in pets.

The City of Irving Streets Department is ready to act in the event of ice, and refuse and recycling pickup are not expected be affected by this weather event. Unless otherwise notified, regular pickup schedules will be in effect.
The forecast
The NWS is forecasting freezing drizzle overnight Tuesday, increasing to freezing rain late Wednesday through Thursday morning. Ice accumulations are expected on elevated surfaces, as well as a few slick spots on roads. Motorists are urged to take extra care on the roads and expect some travel delays.

Tips for residents
- Outside water service: Turn off sprinklers, disconnect and drain hoses and cover outdoor faucets and exposed pipes.
- Pets: If possible, bring inside for the duration of the event. Provide warm shelters if unable to bring pets indoors.
- Indoor plumbing: Drip faucets for any plumbing adjacent to an outside wall to keep pipes from freezing.
- Power: Expect and prepare for electricity outages. Contact Oncor to report power outages.
