Here are the top five stories in Irving today:
- Tornado warnings brought tension to the region Monday evening. The warnings were lifted for Dallas County at 6:39 p.m. A tornado reportedly touched down in Jacksboro and Bowie. The extent of the damage was not known at the time of publication. (NBC DFW)
- The Tarrant Regional Water District — which services a large part of North Texas, including Fort Worth — is under scrutiny for seemingly nepotistic hiring practices. Rachel Behrndt reports that 40 family relationships exist among the 333 employees at the water district, drawing public scrutiny. The staff and board say that they're working to implement policies to prevent conflicts of interest. (Patch)
- Learn about Irving-based Darling Ingredients over at dallasinnovates.com. The local business calls itself "the greenest company in the planet," and works to recycle used cooking oil, create cleaner-burning renewable diesel and be a vanguard for other innovations. The company, which originated in 1882, recently acquired Virginia-based Valley Proteins and inked a deal with Chick-fil-A.
- Irving School District offers a reminder that registration opens for PreK on April 1. Parents are invited to enroll children ages 3 and 4 for half day and full day programs. Free tuition is available for qualifying families. (Irving Weekly)
- Irving's CHC Helicopter, a local aviation firm, is considering the possibility of a new Las Colinas HQ. (The Dallas Morning News; subscription required)
