📰 News we're reading

• Leander ISD to consider 'termination' of police chief (newsbreak.com) — Leander ISD's school board is set to consider firing its police chief after a state investigation found widespread problems with how the new department vetted officer applicants. The district faces possible fines and a recommended one-year license suspension for the chief, while an acting chief continues leading the force as Leander reviews culture, hiring, and safety practices.

• 5 years after the Ponderosa Pet Resort Fire, safety advocates fight for cities to adopt new 2027 International Fire Code (kvue.com) — Leander now requires automatic sprinklers in most kennels without constant supervision, part of a wave of Central Texas fire-code changes following the deadly 2021 Ponderosa Pet Resort fire in Georgetown. Safety experts are urging cities, including Leander, to consider adopting the tougher 2027 International Fire Code, which would add staffing and sprinkler standards to better protect boarded pets.
