📰 News we're reading

• McKinney organizers say petition has enough signatures for mayor, city council to face recall elections (cbsnews.com) — McKinney residents may soon vote on recalling the mayor and three city council members after organizers submitted roughly 7,400 petition signatures, well above the threshold they say is required. City staff are now verifying each signature, while supporters cite broader concerns about city decisions and critics argue the effort is driven by prejudice over a recently approved mosque expansion.

• Visit McKinney launches redesigned website to help travelers discover and plan their visit (ntxe-news.com) — McKinney's tourism office has launched a completely redesigned VisitMcKinney.com to make it easier for visitors to discover local restaurants, events, and attractions. Built with AI-powered tools from Steeple Systems, the new site updates information faster, highlights what's trending around town, and aims to boost the city's visitor experience and local economy.

• 8 Takeaways From Day 2 of Future Place 2026 (builderonline.com) — Developers at a national Future Place conference highlighted McKinney's Painted Tree community as a standout example of how trail systems can become a neighborhood's most-loved feature. Speakers said today's master-planned projects succeed by building social infrastructure—like trails, food-centered gathering spots, and wellness amenities—early in the process. For McKinney residents, it's a glimpse into how local communities are being designed for connection and everyday use.
