1. Montgomery County Jury delivers Life Sentence for Murder (hellowoodlands.com) — A Montgomery County jury has sentenced 63-year-old Everton A. Edwards to life in prison for the 2025 shooting death of Vonnie "Clay" Holcomb in Conroe. Prosecutors from the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office used forensic evidence, including the victim's truck bench seat, to convince jurors it was an execution-style killing rather than an accident, a decision officials say brings accountability for Clay's family.

Application of Entergy (montgomerycountynews.net subscription) — A major new Entergy Texas transmission line is proposed in Montgomery County, and residents who may be affected have until September 23, 2026, to formally intervene. The Forest–War Eagle–Porter 138 kV project would add up to 11 miles of high‑voltage line, with multiple possible routes and costs nearing $100 million. 3. Magnolia ISD Denies Parents' Appeal for Accountability in Sex Abuse Case (texasscorecard.com) — Montgomery County families are being urged to contact Precinct 5 constables if their children had contact with former Magnolia ISD teacher Jason Maldonado, who faces felony sex-abuse charges. Magnolia ISD trustees have denied parents' appeals to discipline administrators over alleged failures to act on years of warnings, and the affected family is now weighing legal action while the criminal investigation continues.
4. Willis High School student detained after gun discovered inside backpack (click2houston.com) — A Willis High School student was detained after an assistant principal found a gun in the student's backpack, prompting a response from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. Officials say the weapon was immediately confiscated, the campus remained secure, and there was no active threat, though the incident is being handled under Texas law and district policy. Families are urged to double‑check backpacks for prohibited items before school.
5. The Woodlands Pride is giving its annual festival a Halloween twist this year (houstonchronicle.com) — Montgomery County residents are invited to The Woodlands Pride festival, which this year lands on Halloween with costumes encouraged at Town Green Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on October 31. Organizers hope the Halloween twist will draw an even wider slice of the county, with live entertainment, local vendors, food trucks, family activities, and ongoing LGBTQIA+ community programs that reach across Montgomery County.
