Arrest Made In North Austin Sexual Assault Case

Quentin Tremel Goffney is accused of robbing, sexually assaulting woman in June as she walked through Churchill Crossing apartment complex.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — An arrest has been made in the sexual assault of a North Austin woman last summer, the Travis County Sheriff's Office said late Wednesday.

The incident dates to June 9, 2018, when a woman walking through the Churchill Crossing apartment complex along the 14100 block of Thermal Drive at around 4:30 a.m. when she was attacked, sheriff's officials said in a press advisory. The suspect is accused of first asking the victim for money before pulling her to a secluded area where he sexually assaulted her, stabbed her and stole her cell phone.

The suspect then fled the scene on foot, police said. He has since been identified as Quentin Tremel Goffney.

The sheriff's office sought help from the public in helping to solve the case, issuing a description of the alleged attacker along with DNA collected from the Safe Assault Forensic (SAFE) kit that was analyzed for evidence. Ultimately, a Combined DNS Index System (CODIS) match was made, leading to Goffney's arrest, police said.

Evidence indicates Goffney pawned knives several days after the assault, according to sheriff's officials. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the Travis County Jail, charged with aggravated sexual assault, records show. His bail has been set at $350,000..
