Texas Police Will Turn On Emergency Patrol Lights To Honor Fallen Peace Officers

For full minute Friday, patrol lights citywide will be engaged to honor slain Dallas officers and all peace officers killed in line of duty.

AUSTIN, TX — Don't be alarmed on Friday if you see patrol cars turn on their red-and-blue lights on in unison. The move will mark not a state or national emergency, but a gesture meant to honor fallen peace officers throughout Texas.

The tribute also will be done to mark the one-year anniversary of the attack on Dallas law enforcement that occurred when a sniper killed five officers protecting marchers. To honor them and all fallen peace officers, Gov. Greg Abbott has asked all Texas law enforcement officers to turn on their lights for a full minute starting at 10 a.m. on Friday (July 7).

Abbott also will be attending at the funeral of San Antonio police officer Miguel Moreno, who was shot and killed in the line of duty last week. The governor will be speaking at the funeral service, according to a news release on his official website.
