Body At Colorado River Could Be Missing ACL Fest Attendee

Medics responded to 3600 Rivercrest Dr. amid reports of a body in the water that could be that of visiting Minneapolis concertgoer.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — A man was pronounced dead at the scene after what began as a water rescue at the Colorado River on Monday, medics said.

Austin-Travis County EMS officials responded to a report of a "body in the water" in North Austin along the banks of the Colorado River just before 1 p.m. on Monday amid rainy weather. The location of the incident is at 3600 Rivercrest Drive, medics said.

Shortly after their initial tweet, medics updated to convey a man in his 20s was dead at the scene by the time they arrived. No further details were made available, making it unclear if the man was swimming or kayaking in the river that is a popular stop among mavens of such activities.

While the body has yet to be positively identified, the body is believed to be that of a man from Minneapolis who was attending the ACL music festival before disappearing on Saturday. Since then, his family and friends of Christopher White, 25, have taken to social media to spread the word in the hopes of finding him.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that a large contingent of White's family members, including his parents, flew to Austin to help search for their loved one. White was originally from Colorado but had lived in Minneapolis for the past four years, the newspaper reported.

The location of the body is near the spot where White went missing over the weekend, according to law enforcement officials. White reportedly had been staying at a rental home fronting Lake Austin on the other side of the river before he went missing, according to reports. The search for White reportedly has been called off in light of the grim discovery.

The discovery comes two days after the body of a woman was pulled from Lake Travis on Saturday. A Travis County Sheriff's Office spokesperson said the body may be that Rachel Scott, 25, of Round Rock who went underwater in May after falling from the second level of a party barge and never resurfaced. In a press briefing, the sheriff's office spokesperson advised reporters not to categorize the woman's death as a drowning as she hit her head as she fell, noting the exact cause of death is pending a medical examiner's autopsy.

Agonizing Wait For Wife Of Boater Claimed By Lake Travis

There are a dozen bodies that have never been recovered from the murky depths of Lake Travis since the massive man-made reservoir was created, the spokesperson said. Still lost is the body of Manuel Salas of Elgin who went into the water in May never to resurface as he enjoyed the lake with his wife, who helplessly watched her husband in distress before rescue officials arrived 30 minutes later following her frantic calls for help.
