Female Pedestrian Struck, Killed Along Interstate 35 In North Austin

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — A pedestrian was killed Thursday night along the northbound Interstate 35 in North Austin, according to emergency officials.
The female victim was struck by a car at around 9:30 p.m. along the 8300 block of I-35 near U.S. 183, Austin-Travis County EMS medics said via Twitter. The woman is believed to be in her 30s, medics said.
Northbound I-35 north of U.S. 183 was closed to traffic for some time after the incident to accommodate emergency crews and detectives at the scene.

The stretch of highway where the woman was hit is not elevated without cross streets in near proximity. It's unclear whether the woman was trying to cross the interstate or walking on the shoulder prior to being struck. It's unclear if the driver was cited in the fatal collision.
This was the second time in as many weeks that a pedestrian was killed in North Austin. Michael James Trujillo, 34, was killed along the 800 block of East Braker Lane at around 11 p.m. July 17 when he was struck by a car while walking in the middle of the street. His death marked the city's 33rd fatal traffic crash and the 35th traffic fatality of 2017.
