Motorcyclist Hit By Truck Before Plunging To His Death: Austin PD
Robert Lance Trewitt, 62, fell off a retaining wall after being hit from behind as he traveled along 8400 block of Research Boulevard.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Tuesday disclosed that the motorcyclist who plunged to his death off a North Austin overpass a week before was hit from behind by another vehicle.
Robert Lance Trewitt, 62, was riding his motorcycle along the 8400 block of Research Boulevard on Dec. 12 when he a 2002, blue Chevrolet truck traveling southbound swerved onto the right lane to avoid a collision just after 2 p.m. After the truck swerved, it hit Trewitt's 1998 BMW motorcycle from behind, knocking Trewitt off the bike and over a retaining wall, police said.
Trewitt sustained serious injuries before being rushed to Dell Seton Medical Center, where he died the next day, officials said.

In their press advisory detailing the deadly incident, police didn't indicate if the driver of the truck stayed on the scene or if charges were filed as a result. But police did indicate the case continues to be investigated. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call detectives at (512) 974-8544. The incident marked Austin’s 70th fatal traffic crash and the 75th fatality of 2017, police noted. At this time in 2016, there were 72 fatal traffic crashes and 74 traffic fatalities, officials added.
Just one week before Trewitt's death, another motorcyclist lost his life in Central Austin after losing control of his 2017 Harley Davidson. Deion Lee Odom, 23, died on Sunday, Dec. 5, while traveling westbound on Cesar Chavez Street
