Pflugerville Election 2019: Weiss Holds On To Lead
As evening progressed, incumbent city councilman widened his lead against two upstart challengers.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — Unofficial results late Tuesday show incumbent city council member Doug Weiss retaining his seat against two challengers.
Unofficial results with 45 percent of precincts reporting show Weiss with 2,420 votes or 63 percent of the total. Challenger Emmy McDaniel had 921 votes (24 percent) while Dana Barbie secured 511 votes (13 percent).

For a while on Tuesday evening, it seemed that McDaniel had pulled an upset. But that was before additional votes from the Pflugerville county tax office were tabulated with other polling sites' tallies in the mix. .
Doug Weiss, a manager of Shutterfly Inc., hails from the Dallas suburb of Plano and earned a bachelor's degree in business from UT-Dallas. He has a long history of civic work, including three years on city council and a decade on the Pflugerville Community Development Corp., the city's economic development agency.

His challengers for the council post are both political newcomers. In her filing for political office, Barbie lists her occupation as professional engineer while McDaniel listed her occupation in official filings as a formre legal assistant for the state.
In his own campaign literature, Weiss had touted a focus on retaining a high quality of life for Pflugerville residents. Among the prongs to support this dynamic were sound infrastructure, quality of parks and library resources, good-paying jobs and a manageable tax burden for residents.
The city's fast growth spawned campaign themes for the two challengers. While on the stump, Barbie often mentioned the need for good infrastructure and greater connectivity with surrounding communities. For her part, McDaniel bemoaned increasing traffic congestion amid brisk city growth — making that urban ill a main theme of her race.
