Man Killed In SH 130 Wreck Was Decorated War Veteran

Driver was ejected from vehicle before falling off bridge onto highway after colliding against a protective barrier on Thursday.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — Police on Friday identified the driver who was killed in a traffic accident the previous day that shut down a portion of State Highway 130.

David Germick, 32, was ejected from his vehicle after striking a protective barrier on the bridge on Pecan Street over SH 130 just after 3:10 p.m. on Thursday. Germick was driving west on Pecan Street when he collided against the barrier, according to police.

After being thrown from the vehicle, Germick fell onto the northbound lanes of the highway, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the accident continues to be investigated, police said.

The man's mother posted a link to a GoFundMe campaign created in part to help defray funeral costs for his family. She alerted residents to the fundraiser on the People of Round Rock community Facebook page. According to the page, Germick was a decorated war veteran who leaves behind a wife and three children.

At last check on Friday evening, the fundraising campaign had raised $920 of a $10,000 goal. To contribute to the fund, click here.

The incident marked the third traffic fatality in Pflugerville this year, police noted.

The aftermath of the wreck created significant traffic delays that lasted for hours as police investigated and work crews cleaned up the scene. A stretch of the highway was shut down to accommodate such tasks before northbound SH 130 at Cameron Road was reopened just before 9 p.m. Just past midnight officials alerted residents via mass text messaging that Peca Street at SH 130 had finally been reopened.
