Police ID Man Killed In North Austin Shooting

Bruce Martinez, 38, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds sustained in a violent incident on Wednesday outside a La Quinta Inn.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — Police on Thursday identified the man who was killed in a shooting outside a La Quinta Inn hotel in North Austin the previous day.

Bruce Martinez, 38, succumbed to gunshot wounds following a shooting at the hotel on 5812 N. Interstate 35 just before 4 a.m., police said. Martinez — who had just turned 38 on April 6, according to birth information police provided — sustained multiple gunshot wounds along with a second unidentified man at the scene, law enforcement officials said.

A suspect in the shooting is still at large, but police assure there is not ongoing threat to the public. When police use that verbiage, it generally indicates those involved in violent confrontations knew each other beforehand rather than it being an act of random violence.
