Police ID Man Who Died While Riding Scooter In North Austin
Christopher M. Peterson, 25, was riding a Vespa early Sunday morning when he veered onto oncoming traffic before dying at the scene.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Tuesday identified the man who was killed while driving a scooter in nighttime traffic over the weekend.
Christopher M. Peterson, 25, was traveling in a silver, 1979 Vespa Moped southbound along the 10700 block of North Lamar Boulevard when he veered onto oncoming traffic. He was struck by a 2017 Toyota Corolla traveling northbound, dying at the scene as a result.
The incident occurred on Sunday, Dec. 3, at around 1:20 a.m.

Police said the case was still being investigated. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call detectives at (512) 974-5594. Those with information also can submit tips by downloading APD’s mobile app, Austin PD, for free on iPhone and Android.
Police noted the incident marked Austin’s 65th fatal traffic crash and the 70th fatality of 2017. At this time in 2016, police added, there were 71 fatal traffic crashes and 73 traffic fatalities.
