Police ID North Austin Pedestrian Left For Dead In Hit-And-Run

Scott Gerald Whiting, 37, was killed while walking eastbound on the south curb line along the 5700 block of Parmer Lane.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Tuesday identified the pedestrian who was run over and left dead on the side of the road by a hit-and-run driver this week.

Scott Gerald Whiting, 37, was killed early Monday while walking eastbound on the south curb line along the 5700 block of Parmer Lane, according to police. An unidentified vehicle traveling in the same direction struck Whiting, police added.

Police are unsure if Whiting was walking in the bicycle lane or the grassy shoulder when he was hit, according to their press advisory. The driver that struck Whiting fled the scene, and the motorist's identity is unknown, police added.

Whiting was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The incident marked Austin’s 33rd fatal traffic crash of 2018, resulting in 34 fatalities this year. At this time in 2017, there were 32 fatal traffic crashes and 34 traffic fatalities.
