Police ID Pedestrian Struck, Killed In North Austin
Police found trauma-ridden body of Michael Anthony Reed-Harper, 40, on a roadway on Sunday with injuries consistent with being hit by car.

NORTH AUSTIN, TEXAS — Police on Wednesday identified the pedestrian who died in North Austin after being struck by a vehicle earlier this week.
Police were called to the 12200 block of Dessau Road just after 4:20 a.m. on Sunday. There, police found Michael Anthony Reed-Harper, 40, a black male, dead of obvious traumatic injuries consistent with having been hit by a car, officials said in a press advisory.
The Austin Police Department didn't indicate whether the driver who hit Reed-Harper stayed at the scene or fled, but noted their investigation was ongoing. Police noted this incident marked Austin’s 48th fatal traffic crash of 2018, resulting in 49 fatalities this year. At this time in 2017, police added, there were 41 fatal traffic crashes and 43 traffic fatalities.
The incident also marked the second pedestrian death to have occurred in Austin on the same day. On the other side of town in South Austin, an unidentified man was struck Sunday night along the 4200 block of South Lamar Boulevard. Police determined a silver, 2011 Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound when a pedestrian "...ran in front of the vehicle," investigators wrote in a press advisory. The pedestrian was running eastbound across South Lamar from the Brodie Oaks shopping center but not within the crosswalk, police added.
