Police ID Suspect In North Austin Homicide

John Frederick Mouton, 22, is behind bars on $500,000 bond after an unidentified male in his late 30s was found on a sidewalk on Sunday.

AUSTIN, TX -- Police have identified a suspect in the death of a man found dead on a sidewalk Sunday in North Austin.

John Frederick Mouton, 22, is accused of homicide in the death of a 37-year-old male victim. Police have asked members of the media to withhold the identity of the victim until further notice.

According to police, both men were homeless and living on the streets near the corner of U.S. 183 and Norwood Park Boulevard.

The victim was found was found outside the Paddock at Norwood apartment complex in Northeast Austin after police arrived at the scene at about 1:30 a.m. Police immediately surmised the dead man had been the victim of foul play given the signs of obvious trauma on his body.

Mouton was booked into Travis County Jail on Monday on a $500,000 bail.
