Police Seek Help To ID Man Shot Dead At North Austin Hotel
Police suspect man only known by nickname 'Chato' was specifically targeted before being gunned down at WoodSpring Suites hotel.

NORTH AUSTIN, TEXAS — Police on Wednesday released more details about a fatal shooting that occurred the previous day at a North Austin hotel as they seek help from the public in identifying the victim.
Police were called to the WoodSpring Suites hotel at 11105 North Interstate 35, just before 3 p.m. on Tuesday where they found a man shot dead in the 4th floor hallway at the two-star hotel. Members of the Austin Police Department's Metro Tactical Team happened to be across the street when the call was made, officials said, ensuring a quick arrival.
The tactical team members were met at the shooting scene by units from the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and the Violent Crimes Task Force, according to a press advisory.

There, police said they found a mortally wounded Hispanic man whose name has not been disclosed but who went by the nickname "Chato." Police began implementing life-saving measures before the arrival of Austin-Travis County EMS medics but the man was pronounced dead just before 3:45 p.m., according to police.

The medical examiner has since ruled his death as a homicide, and believe the victim was targeted in the shooting for a specific reason. Police now seek help in identifying the victim as they search for a suspect.
