Police Seek Man Accused Of Robbing North Austin Bank

Suspect flashed weapon while demanding cash at Chase Bank branch and left a suspicious package behind, prompting bomb squad to be called.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police are looking for a suspect accused of holding up a North Austin bank branch on Wednesday.

The Jan. 24 incident occurred at the Chase Bank branch on 9901 N. Lamar Blvd. at around 9:45 a.m. Police say the suspect entered the building, displayed a weapon while demanding cash and left a suspicious package behind before fleeing. His getaway vehicle is described as a silver Chevrolet Malibu with dark tinted windows.

Members of the police bomb squad were called to the scene to examine the suspicious package that was left behind before determining the item posed no threat as an explosive device. No injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as a black male standing five feet, nine inches tall of medium build. He wore a green sweatshirt with a white horizontal stripe, tan ski mask and blue jeans.

Police released surveillance camera images of the suspect and vehicle in the hopes someone might recognize the accused man and alert them as to his whereabouts.
