Police Seek Suspect In North Austin Homicide

Tony Ray Green, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene of a shooting on Saturday at the Madison at Wells Branch apartment complex.

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Monday sought help from the public in solving a homicide case that occurred over the weekend.

Police on Saturday, May 4, responded to 13601 Elm Ridge Lane just before 2:15 a.m. amid reports of multiple shots fired at the Madison at Wells Branch apartment complex. There, they found Tony Ray Green, 22, unresponsive with his body riddled with trauma wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, Green was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police later said Green and another unidentified male had kicked in the door to an apartment in an attempt to rob its occupant. In the process, Green was shot by the apartment dweller in self-defense as the other man fled the scene.

This was the second fatal shooting to occur in North Austin over the weekend. An unidentified 28-year-old man was found dead after police responded to the Quality Inn Hotel at 7928 Gessner Dr. just after 8 p.m. on Sunday. Both victims were African American men, according to police.
