Texas ALDI Stores Pull Protein Bars Off Shelves In Plastic Scare

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — Leclerc Foods is recalling some of its Fit & Active brand Chocolatey Chip Protein Meal Bars sold at ALDI grocery stores after a consumer found a small piece of yellow plastic inside the product, food regulators announced.

According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, a single lot of the product was recalled over an abundance of caution. The recalled bars were sold in ALDI stores in 21 states including Texas. ALDI recently opened a store in Pflugerville at 1415 FM 685 Rd.

No reports of injuries or illnesses have been reported, according to the recall notice, but consumers are urged to discard the product immediately. Food safety regulators are concerned some consumers might have unused portions of the recalled bars in their homes. The affected product is contained in 9.5 ounce boxes of Leclerc Foods Fit & Active brand "Chocolatey Chp Protein Meal Bars" with the identifying UPC number 41498-18695, and a best-by date of May 24, 2018.

The recalled bars were sold in ALDI stores in 20 states other than Texas, including: Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, District of Columbia (DC), New Jersey, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia.
