NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Tuesday identified the two people killed in a late-night fiery crash last week in North Austin — a young woman and a 15-year-old child.
Police say Ashley Martinez, 23, and Eloy Herrera, 15, died when the car they were traveling in stopped in the center lane along the 5600 block of Interstate 35 North for unknown reasons. The incident occurred just before midnight on Jan. 4 a few blocks north of 51st Street.
Earlier, police said the GMC Jimmy the two victims were traveling in stopped in the center lane of the road last Thursday when an 18-wheeler headed in the same direction rear-ended the vehicle, causing the stopped car to burst into flames. Martinez and Herrera were pronounced dead at the scene.
