Woman Rescued From Austin Wilderness Trails

Medics dispatched to pluck patient from wooded site days after city officials wanted of slick, muddy paths following recent heavy rains.

AUSTIN, TX — Medics on Friday rescued a woman at a local greenbelt on the same week that city officials warned visitors of muddy and slick conditions at nature trails given recent heavy rains.

The incident occurred at around 11:30 a.m. at 8800 Big View Dr. in North Austin, across from the Colorado River. On Twitter, medics said the patient was assisted in walking out of the greenbelt trails after sustaining injuries not deemed to be life-threatening.

While it's unclear what caused the woman's injuries, warnings have been issued in the past few days over the treacherous topography at area trails. The rescue comes days after the Barton Creek Greenbelt was closed a couple of times before being reopened this week after days of heavy rainfall finally came to an end. Despite the cessation of storms, however, city officials warned the topography there remains slick and muddy as a result of heavy rainfall.

Barton Creek Greenbelt Closed Again After More Rain

To mitigate the potential for injury, parks and recreation officials urge visitors to the city's trails networks to remain on established trails for the time being. The Barton Creek Greenbelt was hit hard by the recent rainfall that caused land erosion.
