• HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: OHS comes up short against Arizona Compass Prep (oaoa.com) — Odessa High's Bronchos narrowly lost 31-27 to Arizona Compass Prep in a rain-soaked nondistrict finale at Ratliff Stadium, despite a big second-half comeback. Standout performances included quarterback J'Zavian Kelly's 229 passing yards and a 74-yard touchdown to Sebastian Ortega. The Bronchos now turn their focus to district play against Midland High on Oct. 9 at Ratliff. 
• head-on crash in Odessa leaves one driver dead (firstalert7.com) — A head-on collision at West 26th Street and Huntington Avenue in Odessa left 43-year-old Thomas Wilson Evans with life-threatening injuries; he later died at a Lubbock hospital. DPS says another Odessa driver failed to yield at the stop sign while turning, and the crash remains under investigation with no additional details yet released.
