Odessa City Council approves increased tax rate (newswest9.com) — Odessa homeowners will see a slightly higher property tax rate starting in October after the City Council approved a new budget that's about $2.7 million larger than last year's. City leaders say the increase will help fund core services like water, trash, parks, fire, and police, along with a new firehouse and animal shelter advisory roles.
   

2. Odessa Fire Rescue talks Firehouse 10, additional expansions going into 2030s (yourbasin.com) — Odessa is planning a new Firehouse 10 in northeast Odessa on land donated by longtime resident Larry Bell, with a goal of opening by mid-2028 to improve response times. City leaders and Odessa Fire Rescue are also eyeing up to 15–22 stations by the mid‑2030s, using data to decide where future firehouses should go.

GOOD NEWS: Odessa Rotary Club supports Permian Basin Fair & Exposition Scholarship Fund (oaoa.com) — Odessa residents can take pride in their Rotary Club, which just donated $1,500 to the Permian Basin Fair & Exposition Scholarship Fund to support local students. The club regularly raises money for area causes, including scholarships and rehabilitation services, underscoring its ongoing commitment to the Odessa community.

Former Odessa Police officer reportedly arrested on charges of misuse of official information (newswest9.com) — Odessa officials report that a former Odessa Police Department officer has been arrested on two counts of misuse of official information after allegedly using arrestees' phone numbers for inappropriate messages. The department emphasized that his conduct violated policy and law, and stressed that such behavior undermines the trust they work to build with Odessa residents.
   

5. Odessa man charged with felony kidnapping after woman flees captivity and alerts authorities (newswest9.com) — An Odessa man is jailed on a first-degree felony aggravated kidnapping charge after deputies say his ex-spouse escaped from his truck in West Odessa and sought help at a nearby Stripes. Ector County authorities report she described being threatened with a knife before fleeing and that deputies later stopped the suspect's vehicle and arrested him on a $75,000 bond.
