West Texas Man Convicted Of Wife's Pearland Murder

PEARLAND, TX — A Pearland man who pleaded guilty for the shooting death of his wife in November 2016, was sentenced to 45 years in prison.
Rodolfo Chaires, 48, was sentenced on June 22 for the capital murder of Ernestina Chaires on Nov. 29.
The couple, who’d lived previously in Littlefield, north of Lubbock, were separated, with Ernestina Chaires living with her daughter in Pearland, the Houston Chronicle reported. Rodolfo and Ernestina Chaires had been separated about three weeks, when he unexpectedly showed up at their home at the Tranquility Bay Apartments, in the 2900 block of Oak Road, on Nov. 29.
Witnesses told investigators that Rodolfo, who wanted to reconcile, forced his way into the home to talk with his wife.

The couple spent several hours talking and when they began to argue, Rodolfo Chaires pulled a gun and shot his wife to death in front of their family, and left the apartment.
She was taken to an area hospital, but later died.
He was arrested the next day by Brazoria County Sheriff’s deputies.
Chaires will be eligible for parole when he is 70 years old.
