Plano Police Blotter: Week In Review
Reports of violent crimes rose slightly while property crimes and quality of life crimes dropped. Here's how crime plays out in Plano.

PLANO, TX — Crime fluctuates in any city, and calls can vary for any number of reasons. But a drop in crime rates is always something to celebrate, and this week Plano reported fewer property crimes and quality of life crimes than were reported in the week prior.
In fact, property crimes, a variety of crime that includes theft and burglary, dropped from 52 to 39 between the week of Feb. 5 and of Feb. 12. In the same time period, qualify of life crimes dropped from 15 to nine. This type of crimes includes drug and alcohol offenses and disorderly conduct.
Violent crime, a type of crime including assault and robbery, rose from 12 to 22 between this week and last in Plano. The silver lining to this, however, is that only simple assault incidents were documented. Simple assault usually includes only minor bodily harm or threatening words, and it is often not as severe as aggravated assault, which can cause serious bodily harm and occasionally includes the threat of deadly weapons.

Among property thefts, a large number of the reports were of items stolen from vehicles. These types of crimes can be avoided by removing valuables from vehicles every time the owner gets out. Making a habit of locking one's car every time it's unoccupied, even if only to pump gas, is another way to avoid becoming a victim.
