• Presidio County deputies recover another stolen truck with fake title (firstalert7.com) — Presidio County deputies recently recovered a 2021 Dodge pickup with a fraudulent title that was about to be shipped to Mexico, highlighting an ongoing investigation into altered vehicle paperwork. Investigators discovered the truck still had an active lien despite a fake clean title, and they're now digging deeper into how the falsified documents were used and who was involved.
• New World screwworm cases climb to 52; first wild fly detected in U.S. trap (tspantx.com) — Texas animal health officials are tracking 52 New World screwworm cases, including an active infection in a horse in Presidio County, making this parasite a real concern for local ranchers and pet owners. While federal and state agencies release sterile flies and expand surveillance, residents are urged to watch animals' wounds closely and contact veterinarians quickly if they see signs of infestation.
• CBP to lift pause on Big Bend border construction (newswest9.com) — Border officials are preparing to restart ground-disturbing work for the Big Bend 2 border project in Presidio County, including a 30-foot wall, new road, and surveillance technology. With most affected land privately owned and many owners resisting, locals face possible federal condemnation actions even as environmental and community groups continue to fight for a longer pause and scaled-back plans.
