Groundbreaking For Long-Anticipated Sports Complex Set
City officials are expected to descend en masse Tuesday to dedicate the new venue.

ROUND ROCK, TX -- City officials have scheduled a Tuesday groundbreaking ceremony for a long-anticipated sports complex funded as part of a $16.5 million bond proposition approved by voters in 2013.
Members of the Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department, city council and the convention and visitors bureau are scheduled to be on hand for the groundbreaking beginning at 10 a.m. at Old Settlers Park located at 3300 Palm Valley Blvd.
The area northwest of the Lakeview Pavilion and Festival Area at the park will serve as the staging area for the groundbreaking of the project city officials call the Multipurpose Field & Soccer Complex.

Members of the public are invited to attend the event, but are advised to enter via Highway 79 rather than Harrell Parkway Road that’s been partially closed for repair.
In addition to financing secured through the issuance of general obligation bonds, $6.5 million in funding was derived from the city’s Hotel Motel Occupancy Tax Fund and $4 million from the General Self Finance Construction Fund.

The soccer complex portion is funded by the 2014 GO bond at $3 million.
Once completed, the Multipurpose Field Complex will include four natural grass multipurpose fields, one natural grass championship field, four synthetic turf multipurpose fields and one synthetic turf championship field. Additional features include parking, sports lighting, restroom/concessions building, spectator amenities and a playground.
The complex will encompass some 29 acres land, spokesman Roger Heaney said in a prior interview.
The soccer complex project involves revamping of an existing five soccer fields to create two multipurpose fields and three separate soccer fields (1 full, 2 youth), replacement of the existing topsoil and sod, and upgrades compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Construction for the sports complex is scheduled to be completed by the spring of 2017 while the soccer complex will open by 2018.
