The SpringHill Suites by Marriott at 2960 Hoppe Trail had closed for nearly two weeks re-opened after getting clearance from local health officials, according the a report by the Austin American-Statesman. Six confirmed cases of Legionnaires' disease were detected among guest and employees of the hotel. The ailment can cause deadly pneumonia, usually after people inhale mist carrying the bacteria. Several of the reported cases involved people who had used the hotel pool or hot tub or who had been in close proximity of the facilities.

Because the hotel took steps to prevent further cases of the disease to develop — agreeing to the closure and treating the water system with bacteria-killing chlorine, for example — hotel officials won't face any fines, a health official told the newspaper.
