Stan O. Springerley Files To Run For WilCo Attorney Seat
Commissioners Court assistant general counsel seeks to unseat GOP incumbent Dee Hobbs as part of 'blue wave' of candidates.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — Stan O. Springerley, assistant general counsel for the Williamson County Commissioners Court, on Tuesday officially filed to seek his party's nomination for county attorney as the Democrat seeks to unseat GOP incumbent Dee Hobbs.
Springerley, 49, seeks to garner his party's nomination for the seat currently occupied by Hobbs, a Republican who has run unopposed in the last two general elections with no Democratic challenger. The deadline for county candidates to file with their respective political parties is Dec. 9.
“This is the first step in the 2020 election cycle to bring change to the political system in Williamson County and restore integrity and the right temperament to the county attorney’s office,” Springerley said in a prepared statement. “We believe that our campaign is the fiscally responsible, socially inclusive option for the people.”

In a separate press advisory from one announcing his candidacy, Springerley said his run is part of a developing 'blue wave' of Democratic challengers in criminal justice races. The demographic shared by the new crop of candidates is they are from the Gen X generation that came between the boomers and millennials, said Springerley — who's dubbed his campaign "SOS for WilCo" in a double meaning utilizing his initials said.

Among members of the WilCo blue wave are Democratic candidates running for criminal justice races such as judges, county attorney, sheriff and constable, Springerley said.
“As a member of Gen X, I attended integrated public schools and grew up in a more diverse world,” Springerley said. “We have qualified individuals with law degrees, like Lucio Del Toro running for a district judge seat, and an experienced law enforcement officer Mike Gleason running for sheriff. At the constable level, Robert Tijerina in Cedar Park is running for the precinct 2 position. What sets us all apart is that we are all members of Gen X, all have government experience and solid credentials, and we are all seeking the Democratic nomination to challenge the status quo in Williamson County.”
Added Kasey Redus, a fellow Gen Xer who ran a tight yet ultimately unsuccessful bid for Precinct 2 county commissioner last year: "I believe the new progressive wave includes candidates of the original socially liberal and fiscally conservative generation." Redus is now working as assistant campaign manager for Springerley.
Springerley has worked for the Williamson County Commissioners Court for more than five years, and previously worked as the chief of the civil division in the Smith County District Attorney’s Office in Tyler, Texas, for more than six years.
“We now see in Williamson County a new and diverse generation rising to create a blue wave and set a precedent for the rest of Texas,” he said.
