WilCo Sheriff's Office Veteran Seeks To Unseat Chody

Mike Gleason, who retired in 2016 as assistant chief deputy at sheriff's office after 24 years of service, files for sheriff's position.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — Mike Gleason, who retired as assistant chief deputy at the Williamson County Sheriff's Office three years ago, has filed paperwork to run for the sheriff's position in seeking to unseat Robert Chody, according to reports.

Before his retirement, Gleason spent 24 years at the WilCo sheriff's office. He retired in 2016.

The Democrat's entry into the race for next year's election comes at a time of mounting scandals at the sheriff's office. The firing of the firing of two canine officers after Chody perceived them to have disrespected the chain of command, the sheriff's refusal to fire a commander who created an offensive Facebook page making light of date rape while calling for violence against black NFL players and a state probe into the county's police training academy for racist language from an instructor and other forms of abuse have galvanized members of the community calling for Chody's ouster.
