Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:

  1. On Tuesday, July 26, passengers were able to board San Antonio Zoo's brand-new train!
The "new locomotive" which runs on a "2-mile track" is the second one introduced this year. It was funded entirely by donations, and the fuel on which it runs was "donated by Valero Energy Corporation." According to zoo officials, the new train "features more leg room, more seating space, improved sound systems, and ADA accessibility." Tim Morrow, president and CEO of the San Antonio Zoo, said, "This has been an exciting and historic day for our community and for train lovers... We are so thankful to Union Pacific, Valero Energy Corporation, and all of our donors for helping create many more memories to come." (KENS5.com)
  2. Starting on Sunday at the end of August, a new farmers market called The Market @ Shavano will be set up in Shavano Park. The market will run "along part of Saddletree Court next to the City Hall/police station" and will open on Sunday's from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. throughout the year. The fee for vendors is "$25 per market day" and the market expects to attract "a mix of farmers and ranchers, small local businesses, and artisans and crafters." 3. If you've ever "dreamed of working at a haunted house," well, now's your chance! The 13th Floor Haunted House, located at 1203 E Commerce St., is hiring "staff members, cashiers, actors and makeup artists" to start now until October. "No acting or haunted house experience" is required, but you must "be over the age of 16 and have a passion for all things Halloween" to apply. Those interested can apply here and find out more details at: (FOX 29)
  4. The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office identified the "two teenage boys who were fatally shot this past weekend "near downtown San Antonio." They are "Edgar Menchaca, 14, who died of a gunshot wound to the neck into the chest, and Edgar Emiliano Rojas, 15, who died of a gunshot wound to the head." According to police, "the shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday in the 1800 block of Schley, southeast of downtown." Per their report, "one of the teens called 911 and said he was shot in the neck. When police arrived, they found both of them inside a parked vehicle with gunshot wounds. First responders performed life-saving measures on both of them, but Rojas died at the scene. Menchaca was taken to an area hospital by ambulance but later died from his injuries." (KSAT San Antonio)
  5. According to a "recent report from Redfin," more people in the U.S. "are moving to cities across the nation in hopes of finding less expensive places to live," and one of those places is San Antonio. One reason is because "San Antonio is considered 'relatively affordable' across U.S. cities." Redfin listed it "as No. 9 among cities with a large inflow of new residents" followed by Dallas, "at No. 10 on the list." For more details on the report visit: (mySA)
