Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:

  1. Seven-year-old Mia Orzabal coordinated a blanket drive for the homeless to "make sure they are protected through the cold weather." Her goal was to collect 100 blankets, which she quickly reached, and she and other children distributed them in downtown San Antonio. Mia said, "I told my mom that these homeless need some support because they don't get any support like us -- they don't get a rooftop, they don't get to have money, they don't get to have a shower, they don't get to do anything, so we're giving them blankets because I want to at least give them some support." According to Mia's mother, the children are "setting an example for the community of the importance of giving back." (FOX 29)
  2. The holiday food drives may be over, but there are still many people in San Antonio who suffer from hunger, and local organizations are asking for your help. One organization is Tierra Linda Pantry and Closet, owned by Gabriela Rodriguez and her mother, which opened in August and gets 3-5 visitors per day. Another organization is the San Antonio Food Bank, which helps about 90,000 people a week. Eric Cooper from San Antonio Food Bank said, "As we move into January, we'll see a significant drop in volunteerism. And it's needed, it's the time when we're usually sorting through the donations that have happened over the holidays." To volunteer and for more information, click here and visit: (FOX 29)
  3. There's something "molto bene" (very good) in San Antonio that you have to try! Last fall, business partners Matthew Garcia and Harrison Civick "debuted their Italian sandwich pop-up, GiGi's Deli, during a Sopranos-themed event at Little Death," a bar owned by Chad Carey. There you can "find classics like chicken or eggplant Parmesan plus breakfast-style sandwiches that Garcia says are the New Jersey bodega spin on a San Antonio breakfast taco." 4. San Antonio's MySA explored many strange stories in 2021, including "UFO and ghost sighting, curious San Antonio history, unconventional Texas news" and even "the Kardashians!" Before the year ends, read about some of their favorites of "all the spooky and downright strange Texas stories from 2021" by visiting: (mySA)
