Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:

  1. Today is Fat Tuesday and what better way to celebrate than by going to "full-scale Mardi Gras bashes" at various restaurants in town! San Antonians have not been able to do that for two years now due to COVID-19, but now they're ready to celebrate with "king cake, seafood boils and boozy cocktails!" For a list of local eateries and bars with details, please visit: (San Antonio Current)
  2. In honor of Contemporary Art Month (CAM) this March, various art galleries in town will be holding free events featuring the artworks of local artists, as well as music from local musicians. For a calendar of art exhibitions and events this month, please check out CAM's website, and for more details visit: (San Antonio Current)
  3. On Wednesday, March 2, the Alamo will hold two preview exhibits for Independence Day. The first one is the Phil Collins collection titled "Supplies for War," "which will be held in the Exhibit Hall from Wednesday, March 2 - Sunday, April 24. The second one is the "Alamo Archaeology" exhibit which will take place inside the Long Barrack and will open later this year. Kate Rogers, executive director of The Alamo Trust, Inc., said, "With our plans for even more immersive exhibits, including an interpretation of the south gate in Alamo Plaza, a visit to The Alamo is quickly becoming a much deeper, narrative-rich experience that it has ever been before." Admission to the previews will be free on Wednesday due to Independence Day, but afterward, the cost of admission will be $5-$9 for the general public, and free for Friends of the Alamo members. Looking for a healthy alternative to that mid-week glass (or three) of wine?
Our partners at Betera set out to create beverages that were sophisticated and flavorful enough to drink at cocktail hour but with zero hangover risk. (Their motto is "Drink like there's tomorrow.") Betera's drinks are designed by a Michelin-starred chef using natural botanicals — they're lightly effervescent, sippable, refreshingly bitter and at home in a stem glass or in a highball on the rocks.

Betera offers three recipes — Rhubarb-Hibiscus, Elderflower-Lime and Ginger-Orange. We've tried all three and loved them equally — we recommend the mixed case as a great place to start. Betera has extended their 15 percent discount on first orders to Daily readers, in appreciation for the enthusiastic response so far. Enter Patch15 at checkout and https://bit.ly/TryBetera.

From my notebook:

  • "Today is the last day to buy Girl Scout cookies! There are a few left in the Palo Alto neighborhood, including lemon ups, trefoils, do-si-dos and adventurefuls. The cost is only $20 for five boxes! Stop by 210 Iroquois today and support their troop!" (Nextdoor)
  • "About a week ago, a Clearview area neighbor picked up a 2-year-old Collie mix from the street named Buddy. Apparently, the person feeding him couldn't keep him, but the dog is neutered and has his shots. If you can help, please message annamo2233@yahoo.com." (Nextdoor)
  • "The Animal Resistance and Rescue Team of San Antonio is looking for fosters! For more information, visit https://www.mightycause.com." (Nextdoor)
  • "A neighbor in the Southwest area lost a small pocket bully tri-color female pet named Doja. The animal got lost around Flores and Laclede streets. If you find the dog, please call Tiffany at 210-812-9447. There is a $2,000 reward." (Nextdoor)
