Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:
- This month "The City of San Antonio Solid Waste Management Department is offering" free mulch at the Bitters Brush Recycling Center, located at 1800 Wurzbach Pkwy. The center is open daily from 8-5 p.m., including weekends. Individuals "must bring their own containers" and "pack and haul away the mulch on their own." Please note that per "City Ordinance #2015-09-10-0760, loads must be covered by a tarp," and "The City of San Antonio and its partners are not responsible for damage to vehicles or injury to attendees of the event." - The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded a grant to the San Antonio International Airport (SAT) "for its Pavement Management and Maintenance Program (PMMP)." The grant in the amount of $408,000.00 "is funded from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act – Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) as part of the Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG) program." SAT will use it "to evaluate airfield pavement conditions in order to identify needs and develop a maintenance program for future airfield pavement improvements." Jesus Saenz, Jr., Director of Airports, San Antonio Airport System, said, "This funding allocation will allow us to continue to maintain and improve San Antonio's Airport System, as we continue to provide the City of San Antonio with an authentic and elevated travel experience."(Press Release Desk)
- "Pickleball Giant," a new "retail store with a demo court" which opened "less than a month ago, " will hold their "official grand opening" sometime in August. The store owned by "Robert Wood, a self-proclaimed 'addict' of the sport, has a court and "is equipped with a ball machine and staff...to guide customers through the inventory, allowing customers to try out the paddles." Wood said, "We're a full-line, 100% pickleball only retail store." He added, "We sell every major brand of pickleball products when it comes to paddles, bags, accessories ... everything you can possibly need to play pickleball." (mySA)
- The former "Credit Human headquarters" building on "Loop 1604 and Broadway" was purchased in 2021 "by one of San Antonio's largest real estate companies, Keller Williams Heritage" and now, "the company is unveiling its swanky new digs after a massive overhaul of the interior." - On Saturday, July 9, F.R.I.D.A. Fest 2022 took place at Rolling Oaks Mall, located at 6909 N. Loop 1604 E. The annual event celebrates "the art, culture and community contributions of independent and determined Latinas." The initials of the event's name F.R.I.D.A.
