- On Friday, Jan. 7, San Antonio's Police Chief Bill McManus "offered a ride to a 15-year-old boy who was walking home during freezing temperatures," as he had missed the bus and his phone had died. Chief McManus said, "Sometimes we encounter people at the most perfect moments!" (WOAI)
- "NanoHarmonics, a pioneer in nanotechnology diagnostics, and Avagen Pharma, a Texas based nano-pharmaceutical company" are together transforming healthcare with nanotechnology. Justin Jones, CEO of Avagen Pharma, said "Our focus is to use nanotechnology to create or improve pharmaceutical and diagnostics within healthcare. This is a great time to bring together our different nanotechnology platforms and use internal synergies between both companies to improve the efficacy, safety, and accessibility of certain healthcare products for people all over the world." - Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, AmeriCorps needs your help! The national program is looking for participants to assist organizations and serve the communities with jobs such as "tutoring first graders, helping them learn how to read, and teaching them how to build trails." Jaclyn Kolar, Director of National Service at OneStar said, "Those who were struggling before the pandemic just had challenges piled on more and more over the last two years. This is really a time for individuals to think about they can do be doing in their communities and stepping up to serve right now." - Local sweet tea fans will soon be walking in a "sweet tea wonderland," as HTeaO -- "the chain of sweet tea shops dotting Texas" -- is opening another location on the West Side of San Antonio, with a grand opening planned for Friday, Jan. 21 at 12 noon. To celebrate, half-price gallons and drinks will be offered all day! The menu includes sweet and non-sweet options and coffee and hot teas, with flavors such as "peach ginger, watermelon, wild raspberry, Texas chai, root beer, pink lemonade, and more," and they also have a fruit bar. - Although COVID-19 cases have risen in San Antonio, "the availability of COVID testing has dropped," but city officials are working hard to make more COVID-19 testing sites available. District 6 Councilwoman Melissa Cabello Havrda "teamed up with community partners to provide five days of testing at Gustafson Stadium off Culebra Rd. and Loop 410. Although the free drive-thru testing site is located in District 6, it is available to all residents, and is open January 8-13 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. For more information, visit: (WOAI)
