Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:
- "According to Dunnhumby's annual Retailer preference Index, H-E-B was ranked the second-best grocer in the nation for a second consecutive year, coming in second to Amazon." Per the report, the San Antonio-based grocer's high ranking was based on "the quality of its private-label goods and an increase of its digital presence during the pandemic" and because it continues "to display its strategic superiority over the competition by holding its ground on its traditionally strong balance of great price perception and great quality perception." For more information, visit: (San Antonio Current)
- Of the five San Antonio missions, Mission San Jose is "known as the queen of the missions," is the largest of them all. "According to the National Park Service (NPS), the building is "just over 300 years old" and in 1941, it "was designated a historic site." NPS officials also said that the mission was restored in the 1920s-30s "by the Works Progress Administration" and "about 80 percent of the church is original." To view photos of the historic mission, visit UTSA Library Special Digital Collection and go to: (KSAT San Antonio)
- The Fredericksburg Music Club will be hosting a concert by the San Antonio Agarita Chamber Players on Sunday, Jan. 16 at 3 p.m. at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, located at 1800 North Llano. The music ensemble group will perform "works by Franz Schubert and John Harbison," and although the event is free, donations will be welcomed. Before attending, please contact the church at 540-373-9021 to make sure the event is still going on. For more details, visit: (Subscription: Community journal)
- Just like human beings, "dogs are susceptible to a range of dangerous and fatal viruses shortly after birth," so pet owners should make sure "their vaccinations are up to date annually." They should also be taken for "a yearly visit with their vet who will conduct a physical exam," just like we humans should get an annual physical. A complete vaccination series for an animal can average $200 and treatment for other diseases can cost thousands, but as a responsible pet owner, it's important to take care of your dog or cat and be aware of any medical-related costs. If you think you're overpaying at the vet, see how much it costs to vaccinate your dog in San Antonio here: (Brenham Banner Press)
