Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:
- Dr. Ali Seifi, a neurointensivist at UT Health San Antonio, invented a device called HiccAway that stops hiccups immediately. His invention has received so much attention that he's even going to appear on an episode of Shark Tank, an "entrepreneurial-focused reality show" on ABC. His product is "a straw-like device that a hiccup sufferer uses to sip water through." It "was recently the subject of an article in JAMA Network Open, a publication of the Journal of the American Medical Association Network." According to the article, 249 people from different countries participated in a 4-month cross-sectional study and found that the product "stopped hiccups in almost 92 percent of cases" and was a lot better than home remedies. Dr. Seifi said, "Some health care products claim they can cure a medical condition, but they don't have scientific backup to support the product. I can confidently state that HiccAway is one of the few products on Shark Tank so far with a strong published research study as a backup." - Once again, San Antonio was named "a top city for millennials to settle down" so if you're looking to buy a home for the first time, San Antonio might be the place for you. According to Knock's real estate website, San Antonio ranked number four of "top millennial markets for 2022, or metros where millennials 'spread their wings' for a shot at homeownership." They reported that in 2019, the Alamo City attracted over 7,000 movers from Austin, so it's clearly "becoming a more affordable alternative." For more information, visit: (mySA)
- San Antonio is a city full of "rich cultural diversity," and this weekend affords you the opportunity to experience it through various virtual and in-person events around town. From cultural dance presentations to Western art exhibits and folk music concerts, there is something for everyone to enjoy, but please check with the venues before attending the live events to make sure there are no changes or cancellations. - Alissa Murphy, a MacArthur high school senior, is being recognized nationally for her painting titled "Trapped," which "was selected as part of a national virtual gallery." It depicts a person having a panic attack and the description reads "Panic attacks eat away at you from within, unapparent to anyone outside of your mind. This piece captures the internal war hidden behind a straight face, trapped but overtaking every part of you." The painting was selected out of 1,665 entries in the 2022 National Art Honor Society/National Junior Art Honor Society (NAHS/NJAHS) Juried Exhibition and will be on display at the national virtual gallery until Friday, April 29.
