Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:
- On Thursday, March 31, the family of John Esquivel — better known as Hispanic Elvis — sadly confirmed that he had died. Hispanic Elvis was a local celebrity "known for his King of Rock and Roll impersonations and friendly personality" at the Market Square. Earlier his brother, George Cisneros, said that in the 1960s he was a musician before he worked at an auto body shop. He became Hispanic Elvis more than 20 years ago, which George said it "was his brother's way of living his dream." On Jan. 10, Hispanic Elvis was hospitalized for an esophagus infection and COVID-19 and although he was in a rehabilitation facility for a while, eventually he was placed in hospice care. The family has created a GoFundMe to help with his final arrangements and if you can help, please donate through this link. For more details visit: (mySA)
- A study by SmartAsset, a personal finance website, recently placed "San Antonio at No. 11 among 400 metro areas for housing growth and stability." According to the study, "San Antonio-area home prices soared 214 percent from 1997 through the end of 2021." It estimated that "there's a zero percent chance that a San Antonio-area home would suffer a 5 percent drop in value within 10 years of being purchased." The median price for a house in San Antonio "climbed to $314,000" in February of this year, which represents "an all-time high" and "homes spent an average of 38 days on the market" with 100 percent of them selling for list price. - This year during Fiesta San Antonio, which kicked off on Thursday, March 31, the city will be suspending its free Downtown Tuesday parking program, "which makes parking downtown at city owned parking garages free." On Tuesday, April 5, "all visitors will have to pay to park in the city-operated garages" at normal fee costs. For a list of downtown parking garages with details visit: (mySA)
- Every morning many of us wake up to the sound of voices from local anchors and reporters who share the news. Some of those voices belong to female newscasters who "for more than two decades... have been welcomed into your lives, sharing the news of your communities and the voices that surround them." For that and for their commitment, they are truly appreciated! To recognize some of them and to learn more about each one, please visit: (mySA)
