Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:

  1. A local nonprofit organization has been receiving some backlash due to its name, The Will Smith Foundation, founded by Susan Naylor Sellers in 2007 to honor her son, William Smith, who died in a car accident in Hawaii that same year. On Monday, March 28 — the day after the Oscars — Naylor said, "I started getting some really odd grant requests, people that wanted to fight me or fight Will Smith." Although she had "received messages in the past confusing her foundation with the actor," this time they were "very derogatory" and "childish comments about the actor." She clarified, "The foundation has no affiliation with the actor Will Smith." For the past 15 years, the foundation "has supported dozens of local nonprofits for children and will continue its mission "to provide positive life experiences for children," despite the Academy Awards confusion. Naylor concluded, "It is important I think that the San Antonio area know that this is their own son. Will was born here. This Will Smith has a kind, benevolent heart." The annual Fiesta Arts Fair is taking place at the Southwest School of Art, located at 300 Augusta, on Saturday, April 2 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday, April 3 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. The event is featuring "over 100 artists from all over the United States," as well as live local music and lots of food and drinks! "Tickets are $20 at the gate (or $15 with a student ID, $5 for children ages 5-12 and free for kids younger than 5)" and although cash and credit cards will be accepted at the entrance gate, cash will be needed to purchase coupons to "buy food and drinks from festival booths."
