🌱 March For Our Lives In SA + Tony Parker's Heroes & Villains At SAMA

Hi all! I'm back in your inbox this morning to walk you through everything you need to know about what's happening in town. Here's the lowdown.

Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:

  1. The national March for Our Lives event "to demand gun laws in the U.S." will take place locally on Saturday, June 11, from 10 a.m.-noon. The San Antonio march will start at Milam Park," located at 500 W. Commerce St., and will end at San Antonio City Hall. Afterwards, a rally will be held at San Antonio City Hall, per the "March for Our Lives website." To learn more about the history of March for Our Lives, please visit: (mySA)
  2. "Tony Parker's Heroes and Villains" statues, currently on exhibit at the San Antonio Museum of Art, will be there until Sunday, Sept. 4. The former San Antonio Spurs player started collecting small Marvel hero statues that "he received them as gifts from friends," but he liked them so much that he got "life-size statues" from "a studio in Australia" that made them. Dr. Emily Sano, Coates-Cowden-Brown senior advisor for SAMA Asian art, said, "they're hopeful the exhibit will draw visitors who've not yet been to the museum and can discover all of the other gems it has to offer the community."   3. On Friday, San Antonio Pets Alive! announced that they were on "Code Red" status, which means that "the city's shelters are full and there's an urgent need for people to foster or adopt animals." Unfortunately, if the animals are not adopted or fostered, they will be euthanized. "Euthanasia takes place at 12:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday."   4. Save the date! The Ethical Network of San Antonio (ENSA)" invites you "to support small businesses and shop local this summer at its Good Market: After Dark event" on Saturday, July 9. The event will feature "local and regional vendors selling consciously made goods" and will offer an opportunity to connect "with socially and environmentally conscious businesses and social enterprises in San Antonio."   5. Austin-based Via 313 pizza joint is coming soon to the "Medical Center-area" of San Antonio! The venue will be "hosting a hiring event" from June 30-July 1. Although an exact opening date has not been determined, it's tentatively planned for mid-July. Once open, the place will feature "an expansive patio and a dedicated to-go pick up space."
