Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:
- A new "City of San Antonio COVID Impact Grants Program" is now taking applications for "small business owners in San Antonio that have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic." From now until Monday, Aug. 22, "small business owners can apply for grants ranging from $15,000 to $35,000, and also for a construction impact supplement worth $10,000." For more information on the grant program, please register "for a virtual information session" taking place on Wednesday, Aug. 3 at 2 p.m. For details "on how to register for the session or apply for the grant," please click here. - According to Intelligent.com, "Palo Alto College's Logistics and Supply Chain program" is # 3 on their "list of the top 14 online Associate in Logistics programs in the nation among community colleges." The ranking was based on the college program's "intelligent Score of 93.93 out of 100," which gave it "an additional designation for being 'Best in the West.' Per college officials, "being nationally recognized is a testament to the dedicated faculty and staff who work tirelessly to provide a first-rate education, whether it be online or in-person. Our collective mission is designed to help students to enter the workforce upon completion while having the necessary skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience for them to thrive." (mySA)
- The San Antonio "River Walk is one of the top 20 most beautiful sights around the world," according to a recent study by Kuoni. The choices were based on an analysis of "over 452,000 TripAdvisor reviews to see where travelers had reviewed sights as 'beautiful' most often." As a result, San Antonio placed "number 16 out of 20 on the list." (KENS5.com)
- Three local family members were recently "arrested after they were caught through surveillance video dumping a body on the west side of town." The body was that of "a 19-year-old woman who was reported missing by her father" on Tuesday, July 19. Those arrested were Adam Rangel, Frank Rangel, and Alysson Paredes. "Frank Rangel and Alysson Paredes were charged with altering/destroying/concealing a human corpse and Adam Rangel was charged with tampering with a human corpse." - During a traffic violation stop on Wednesday, July 27 in West Bexar County, police arrested Rebecca Kosakowski, 34, and Lenora Salas, 20, for carrying "drug paraphernalia and nearly 600 pieces of stolen mail" in their vehicle. The mail "belonged to residents at a nearby apartment complex." During the investigation, "authorities found that Salas had a handmade postmaster key around her neck and another key in the vehicle's center console." They also discovered that "Kosakowski was wanted for a parole violation out of Austin for 'dangerous drugs.' Both women are now being held at the Bexar County Jail due to multiple charges. (ksat.com)
