Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:
- During a performance at Hidalgo's Border Mexican Fest on Sunday, April 3, 76-year-old music legend Ramón Ayala fell, but assured his fans that "he's OK" and that "there's still plenty of 'El Rey Del Acordeon' (The King of Accordion) to come." Unfortunately, "this is not the first time Ayala has had a health emergency while on stage" as "in 2011, he had to be stretchered out of a Brownsville concert." However, he called "the collapse a 'small problem' and said that "his blood pressure dropped, causing him to fall while performing" a song. The incident was "shared on TikTok" and to the relief of fans, they could see that the star was "back on his feet and conscious after a few moments." For more details on this story visit: (mySA)
- Gumaro Sanchez and Patrick, local entrepreneurs and co-founders of Life Approach Clothing, are "seeking partnerships with local nonprofits and causes committed toward cancer research." Recently "Harris' mother was diagnosed with leukemia" and to "raise awareness and funding for cancer research," he and Sanchez "considered creating a cancer awareness shirt" and donating "sales proceeds to local nonprofits and cancer research." Harris said, "Everyone experiencing what my family has experienced is in need of support, and if our clothing line can help them in some way, that means the world to me." Sanchez added, "We don't want to be some run-of-the-mill online clothing company. We want to make an impact in our community. We want to help as many people as we can through our brand." Besides shirts, the company is also selling bracelets, "of which 100 percent of all profits will go toward cancer research." - Sadly, the iconic Santiko's Bijou movie theater at the Wonderland of Americas Mall is now closed, according to a sign posted outside the venue. Unfortunately, the closure is "due to the impact the coronavirus has had on independent filmmakers." The Wonderland of America's Santiko's Entertainment location originally opened in 2003 as "a cafe cinema specializing in art-house films." With the theater's, "the city of Balcones Heights" plans to "buy an ownership stake in Wonderland of the Americas" and "the city's Economic Development Corp. plans on borrowing $5.4 million from Truist Bank to buy a 45.72 percent interest in the mall at I-10 and Loop 410, which Crossroads Mall Partners Ltd. has owned for over a decade." This may surprise you, but it's fine art.
Growing your nest egg with art isn't new. Wealthy families like the Rockefellers have done it for centuries.
