🌱SA July 4 Closures + San Pedro Pool Reopens + Interactive McNay

Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:

  1. As Independence Day falls on a Monday this year, many city offices in San Antonio are closing for the holiday. Although "City Hall and most municipal offices will not be open, police officers, firefighters and EMS personnel will remain on duty." In addition, some city swimming pools will open, and "street parking will be free" downtown. For a local holiday schedule for Monday, July 4, please visit: (KSAT San Antonio)
  2. After much waiting, the San Pedro Pool, located at 2200 N. Flores, finally opens again on Sunday, July 3, "just in time for the Fourth of July weekend!" After that, the pools days and hours of operation for the rest of the summer will be Sunday through Friday, from 1-7 p.m. (mySA)
  3. On Friday, July 1, a new interactive studio was launched at the McNay Art Museum, located at 6000 N. New Braunfels Ave. Meredith Doby, vice president of exhibits and lead of DoSeum Design Studios, said, "Visitors [of all ages] are welcomed into... a site-specific experience infused with surrealist natural elements, curiosity-driven interactives, and a personalized interaction with the collection." Tickets are $0-$20, depending on the tier, and there is a "free admission windows every Thursday, and every first Sunday of each month."   4. As you celebrate with family this Fourth of July weekend, wouldn't it be nice to have "a four-legged ball of love and affection" to celebrate with as well? Well, there are many pets waiting for a family at various animal "shelters in and around San Antonio!" In addition to cats and dogs, there are "pigs, birds and even horses" waiting to be adopted!   5. After the tragedy on Monday, June 27, in which migrants were found dead in an abandoned trailer on the Southwest part of San Antonio, and others were transported to hospitals; the death toll is now at 50, per the latest KSAT News reports. According to San Antonio Police Chief William McManus, "the tragedy is the biggest mass casualty event in recent city history." San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg said, "It's tragic. They had families... and were likely trying to find a better life. It's nothing short of a horrific human tragedy." (sacurrent.com)
