Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:
- Chef Elizabeth Johnson, owner of Pharm Table at 611 S. Presa St., was selected by the James Beard Foundation "to participate in this year's Taste America series." The events will include hosting "a curated dinner at her acclaimed veg-forward eatery" next year on March 22, attending tasting events in Houston and Colorado, and participating "in the Tasting Texas Wine + Food Festival, festival" this fall. For more details visit: (San Antonio Current)
- On Monday, June 27, officials from the international "Mexican restaurant chain Cerveceria Chapultepec" announced that its two San Antonio locations were "officially closed." The venues were best known for its one-price "food and drink menu" for $2.90. Unfortunately, one of the restaurants "was named in a $20 million lawsuit after the tragic death of a local cyclist. A month prior, 43-year-old Beatrice Gonzalez was struck while riding with her cycling club by a black sedan in front of nearby Central Catholic High School by an alleged drunk driver, Samantha Castillo, who had been reportedly drinking at Cervecería Chapultepec." - San Antonio Pets Alive! is urgently "in need of fosters and people to adopt dogs." They are currently in "code red" status, which "means many dogs and puppies are at risk of being euthanized, "and SAPA! does not have any availability to rescue them," unless you can help! For further details visit: (KENS5.com)
- Austin-based P-Terry's Burger Stand plans to open a fourth San Antonio location, on the site of the former King's Palace Chinese restaurant "at 3304 Broadway, next to The DoSeum and Brackenridge Park." The venue with its "signature red, white, and teal color scheme" will have "outdoor patio seating and a drive-thru," and the menu will include cheeseburgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, shakes and more! - After more than five years, KSAT meteorologist Kaiti Blake is saying goodbye to the "San Antonio TV market." Blake's "last day at the ABC affiliate will be Wednesday, July 6." She said, "This decision was 100 percent mine. I have been presented with an exciting opportunity outside of TV that will challenge me and take me out of my comfort zone. Most importantly, I'm keeping the title of, "meteorologist" — so I'll get to continue doing what I love." (mySA)
