Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:

  1. According to Zillow Group, San Antonio is one of "the best cities in the country for singles to move to." Recently Zillow ranked the 100 largest U.S. metros based on a number of factors, including the share of singles, available rental units, and rent affordability." According to the results, "San Antonio ranked fifth on the list — and second-best in Texas — with rent now at around $1,469." The high ranking was "due to the inventory of rentals available," making the Alamo City "the third most affordable of the top 10." More information at: (550 KTSA)
  2. This fall, Full Goods Diner is coming to the Pearl on "the 200 block of East Grayson Street." The eatery will feature breakfast and lunch items such as "decadent pastries, toast, breakfast enchiladas, pancakes, carnitas tortas, and Hill Country salads." Ryan Harms and Chef Patrick Jackson, creators of Austin's Paper Boy, along with Potluck Hospitality, "plan to bring to life a diner that is warm and welcoming." Although an exact opening date has not been set yet, it's expected to open sometime in September. More details at: (KSAT San Antonio)
  3. UTSA researchers Wenbo Wu and Eric Shattuch are leveraging "data science to explore the impact of the pandemic." Wu is associate professor in management science and statistics, and Shattuck is assistant professor of research at the UTSA Institute for Health Disparities Research. As part of the study, both are "exploring key characteristics of Jefferson Heights and Elm Creek, two vastly different San Antonio neighborhoods." For details visit: (UTSA)
  4. After 24 years, Dan Ward "is stepping down" as "operating partner of San Antonio's Piatti restaurants" to launch "Holistic Hospitality, a new venture focused on supporting business owners, operators, restaurateurs and investors with his experience in the development and hospitality industries." He said, "The last 24 years have been amazing. It was a hard decision to move on from my leadership role in operating both Piatti in San Antonio. I am most thankful for my two Piaitti teams and incredible guests. Together we served generations; I hope I helped make lasting memories for families and friends." A farewell will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27 at the Alamo Quarry Market, at 255 E. Basse Road, Suite 500. (San Antonio Current)
  5. On Wednesday, July 20, police reported to a shooting incident east of downtown after receiving a call after 4 a.m. According to police, "three people were sitting in a car when they were shot by someone inside another vehicle. The victims then drove to the home of a relative on Carolina Street where they called for help." EMS transported them to the hospital "with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds." The cause of the shooting is unknown, and the suspect fled after the shooting and has not yet been found. (KSAT San Antonio)
