Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:

  1. After the Robb Elementary tragedy in Uvalde, which occurred in May of this year, Texas school district officials are figuring out "what can be done to better safeguard the state's youngest residents." In Uvalde, "community members...have placed intense scrutiny on officials there over the past several weeks to ensure another mass shooting tragedy doesn't happen again." As school starts soon, local school district officials strongly encourage students to be "aware of their surroundings" and "contact district police or administrators if they see something suspicious." To find out about "safety plan protocols and changes" in each San Antonio school district, please visit: (KENS5.com)
  2. Hatch chile season is here, and Taco Cabana is participating in the Texas tradition by offering "Hatch Chile Lime Margaritas" for $4, along with other spicy items. Taco Cabana's COO, Ulyses Camacho, said, "Hatch Chile season in Texas is a tradition, one that Texans look forward to every year." Camacho added, "For the first time in Taco Cabana's 40-plus-year history, we wanted to celebrate Hatch season with an exciting new Hatch Chile platform showcasing both food and beverage items." In addition to the new margarita, the menu features "Hatch chile smoked pulled pork tacos for $3.19, street tacos with Hatch chile ranch for $4.99, a Hatch chile breakfast bowl for $4.99, and a "crunchy" burrito served with Hatch chile ranch and tortilla chips for $8.59." 3. Bexar County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) officials are searching for "a pink or rainbow-colored revolver used in a shooting on Sunday," Aug. 7, and need the public's help in finding it. According to police, "a 17-year-old male suspect shot a man in the 10000 block of Bonavantura, near Pue Road, and then fled the scene and threw away the gun. The suspect was found about two miles away from the scene and was arrested without incident, but the gun was not located." Anyone who finds it or has any information on it, or the suspect is strongly encouraged not to touch the gun, but to call BCSO at 210-335-6000. (KSAT San Antonio)
  4. On Monday, Aug. 8, a fire which started around 7 a.m. at "Northstar Grocery on Westshire Drive" was extinguished by firefighters "before it spread to neighboring businesses." According to them, when they arrived, "getting inside was difficult due to the burglary bars on the windows. Once they were able to enter the store, they searched for the source of the fire and tracked it to the inside of a wall." The "exact cause" of the fire has not "been determined," but it seems it may have been "sparked by an electrical malfunction. Fortunately, there were no injuries "as the store was closed" when the fire occurred. (550 KTSA)
  5. Last year, "Mayor Ron Nirenberg officially proclaimed October 1-7 as Texas Fashion Week." During this year's weeklong celebration, "San Antonio's Texas Fashion Industry Initiative will host...a slew of events for the Alamo City's fashionably-inclined," including "fashion shows, workshops and panels led by industry-leading experts." In addition, "designers, models and photographers" will gather at venues like "the Tobin Center, Brick at Blue Star and University of the Incarnate Word's Rosenberg Skyroom for runway celebrations of local talent." The "week will kick off with an opening mixer at Legacy Park on Oct. 1, and close with the Texas Fashion Industry Awards at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts" on Oct. 7. Tickets are available for purchase on Monday, Aug. 15. For tickets and more information, click HERE and visit: (San Antonio Current)
