Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:
- "A Stand with Uvalde call-to-action event" organized by Congressman Joaquin Castro, was held in San Antonio on Saturday, June 4. The purpose of the event was to support the "victims and survivors" of the shooting tragedy in Uvalde. Several "officials and activists" attended, including San Antonio Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich and Brandon Wolf, "a survivor from the 2016 Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando." He said, "21 families should've been able to send their loved ones off to school and them home in time for dinner. 21 families should be together right now planning summer adventures instead of grieving those they loved the most." (WOAI)
- On Saturday, June 4, "San Antonio Symphony musicians" ended their "unusual season away from the Tobin Center." The San Antonio Symphony musicians who "went on strikeabout eight months following several contract disagreements with management" performed at First Baptist Church, located at 515 Mccullough Avenue. According to concert attendee Melanie Meier, "the city needs to do more to fund the symphony and bring an end to the strike." She said, "It's uplifting, it's beautiful, it attracts all kinds of people and makes the city look like an attractive place to live." Another attendee, Mel Villarreal, said "It just makes a contribution to the soul of San Antonio." For more on this story visit: (Texas Public Radio)
- From now until June 13, San Antonio Baptist Health System hospitals are collecting "healthy cereal" boxes for the San Antonio Food Bank "to help children and adults struggling with hunger." According to San Antonio Food Bank officials, "Texas is ranked 2nd in the nation for food insecurity, with one in six living in food-insecure homes." Matt Stone, CEO of Baptist Health System, said, "Through this drive, hope to help many in our community struggling with food insecurity."
