Hello, friends! It's Wednesday in San Antonio and I'm back in your inbox to get you caught up on all the most important things happening in town. Hope you all have a great day! I'll get right to it.
First, today's weather:
Hot. High: 104 Low: 78.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in San Antonio who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our San Antonio Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:
- Due to the recent "record heat and extreme drought conditions," there have been "several leaks and main breaks all over the city." According to San Antonio Water System (SAWS) staff, "crews are working around the clock to get them fixed." As they are taking all necessary "heat-related precautions," unfortunately, they "may not be able to provide an exact time" of repair. However, they appreciate your patience while all the problems are being resolved. (WOAI)
- Jessie MacWilliams, 32, was arrested on Monday "in connection with a deadly shooting" at the LA Fitness location "on Blanco Road near Loop 410." According to witnesses, he "walked up to a man who was working out inside LA Fitness and shot him once in the head, killing him." According to police, MacWilliams "has a long history of trouble with the law, including drugs, weapons and assault on a police officer." A motive for the shooting has not been given yet, nor has "the name of the 34-year-old victim" been released. The building was evacuated "after the incident," and the gym closed until further notice. (KSAT San Antonio)
- As of now, "San Antonio has received 1,000 doses of the Jynneos monkeypox vaccine to help combat the growing outbreak." According to the Metropolitan Health District, "the two-shot regimen will be enough to fully vaccinate 500 people." Per health officials, "six local clinics will receive 720 doses to cover 360 people, while the city will keep the remaining 280 doses for people identified in case investigations." For a list of clinics where doses are available by appointment, please visit: (KSAT San Antonio)
- Due to COVID-19, the space where the Classic Theatre in San Antonio performed "live during the pandemic," closed down. However, through a "partnership with the San Antonio Botanical Gardens," performances are now being held "without an actual theater." As a result of the "open-air performances at the Botanical Gardens," the theater company has been able to "branch out even more widely." Artistic Director Jimmy Moore said, "This season, season 15, is called New Places, New Faces, and we're taking our shows to several site-specific locations around downtown and San Antonio." The company's first production, "Roosters," will perform at La Zona, "Thursdays through Sundays, from Sept. 8-25." (Texas Public Radio)
- Three San Antonio "Westside nonprofit and historical groups" recently "submitted the now barren property at 503 Urban Loop... for historic designation consideration" by the Historic and Design Review Commission (HDRC). The property was the location of "an old building downtown that was once a brothel and orphanage," but "a two-alarm fire forced the owner to demolish" it. The groups seeking the "historic title" are the "Westside Preservation Alliance, Esperanza Peace and Justice Center, and the Conservation Society of San Antonio. Today, Aug. 3, "HDRC "is set to consider the historic designation." For more on this story visit: (mySA)
